Are you living in a jungle

of emotions? We know the way out.

Her emotions. My emotions. 😵‍💫

Sometimes parenting a teenage girl feels like living in a jungle.

One minute she’s laughing with you in the kitchen.
The next, she’s slamming a door.
Twenty minutes later, she needs a ride to Starbucks.

And somewhere in between, you’ve gone from “I love you so much” to “WHY ARE YOU TALKING TO ME LIKE THAT?!”

Sound familiar?

But here’s the question I really want you to think about:

When your daughter has big feelings…how much do they become YOUR feelings?

She’s anxious. You’re irritated.

She’s angry. You’re defensive.

She’s disappointed. You’re trying to fix it.

And then you might find yourself wondering…

Why am I this worked up about her friendship drama?

If you’ve ever found yourself here, this week’s blog is for you.

Because there’s a difference between being there for your daughter’s emotions and getting swept up in them.

And learning that difference might be one of the most important, and surprisingly difficult, parenting skills of the teenage years.

I’m sharing a practice in this month’s blog that can make a huge difference in how you weather your daughter's emotional storms.

Read the full blog below: Her Emotions. My Emotions.

I'd love to hear from you-

Does your daughter’s emotional weather ever become yours?

Passionate Aunt Shellie's got things to teach us about self-criticism

Is self-criticism her motivational tool? “She is so hard on herself.” If you have a teen daughter who participates in sport, performance, or competition of any kind (including grades, appearance, and friendships), you may have watched this happen: She can immediately focuses on what went wrong. “I should have landed that.”“That was terrible.”“I know I can do better.” And your instinct may be to jump in with: “But you did so many things well!” Of course you want to help her see the good. But...

Unsolicited Advice: My Favourite

Ah Yes, my favourite. One little thing has somehow become THE BIGGEST THING EVER. And you can see the spiral happening right in front of you. So you do what any loving mom would do: “It's going to be okay.” “We'll figure this out.” “Take a breath.” And then… 😬 It doesn't work. She's overwhelmed. She's overthinking. When teen girls are overwhelmed, they don't need us to convince them that everything is okay. They need to know we have their back and to learn to find their way through the...
