Cats baking bread and self-criticsm...what?

Hello again Reader,

And if you're new to the community, welcome!

This season often invites reflection on what’s been done, what’s unfinished, and what we hope will be different in the new year.

For many teens, that reflection can quickly turn into self-criticism.

One simple resilience building message we can offer as parents, guides, & mentors to them (and to ourselves 😉) is this:

You are allowed to be where you are. You are enough exactly where you are.

Resilience isn’t built by constantly pushing forward. It’s built when teens learn they can pause, notice what’s good, and treat themselves with kindness even through the uncertainty.

I like to use thankfulness and gratitude to help me step into this message.

When I think about a person, place, thing, memory, or experience .... it helps me stay true that it's ok to be where I'm at. And importantly, I don't have to love it all.

This morning, for example, I felt a little grumpy and irritated. My cat was “baking bread” on my lap while I was trying to concentrate. And at the same time, I noticed my cozy blanket, my fun orange pen, and just how much love that cat gives me.

Nothing needed to change.
I was okay with where I was at.

Invitation to catch a moment where you are ok with where things are at.

With so much gratitude,

Chantal

In being more direct and honest with you......
