Good news: You can stay in your hoodie!

No commute. No squeezing in one more stop.

Let’s be honest, teen girl athletes (and their parents) are busy!

Between early morning conditioning, practices, games, school, friendships, and trying to catch a breath… their schedules are full. And their sport isn’t just something they do, it’s a huge part of who they are.

So when it comes to mental health support, the last thing we want is to add more pressure.

That’s why I love virtual sessions.

They fit into real life.

No commute.
No rushing across the city.
No squeezing in one more stop.

Instead, support meets them where they already are. After practice, between homework, or in a quieter moment at home.

It removes a huge barrier: time and energy.

But what really stands out?

Comfort.

When teen girls are in their own space, curled up in a hoodie, sitting in their room, even walking outside, they settle faster. It feels less formal, more natural.

And when the nervous system feels safe, everything shifts:

  • They open up more
  • They’re more honest
  • They stay more engaged

There’s also this misconception that virtual means less connection.

In reality, it’s often more interactive. We use visuals, whiteboards, and tools in real time. It becomes collaborative and dynamic.

Of course, some girls feel unsure at first. That’s normal.

But what I hear all the time is:
“I actually like this way more than I thought I would.”

Because it’s private. Flexible. And it fits into their world.

And that’s the key.

When support feels easy to access, teen athletes are far more likely to actually benefit from it, not just when things fall apart, but consistently to support their mindset and mental health.

Virtual sessions aren’t second-best.

For many teen girl athletes, they’re exactly what works.

Trust that the words weren't really gone. Trust that the message was still inside me. Trust that I could begin again. As I sat down to rewrite, I realized...
