My mentor Mia (hint she's not human)

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been spending time volunteering with Heel & Hoof Horse Rescue, and it has been the best experience in so many ways! Reader, these horses are big, powerful, and absolutely beautiful, but also surprisingly wise teachers.

One horse in particular, Mia, has become my newest mentor. She’s curious, assertive, and has a deep love for food. If you walk into the paddock with treats, she has zero hesitation about boxing out the other horses and stepping right into your personal bubble.

At first, I didn’t quite know how to respond. There’s something about being faced with such a large animal that makes you very aware of your own energy. I felt myself shrink back a bit, wanting to be gentle, not wanting to upset her, and hoping she would just understand my boundaries without me having to say anything.

Sound familiar?
It’s something I see so many teen girls experience every single day.

Yesterday morning, I watched a long-time volunteer in the paddock with calm, grounded confidence. He simply put his hand out and said,

“Not in my bubble.”

And Mia stepped back!

No tension.

No confusion.

No frustration.

Just a clear boundary delivered with presence and respect.

In that moment, I realized what Mia had been trying to teach me: boundaries aren't about being loud, forceful, or mean, boundaries come from being steady, clear, and connected to yourself. Horses respond to who you are being, not just what you say.

And honestly? Humans do too.

I’m reminded of the girls in our community learning to hold their own boundaries, trust their instincts, and show up confidently even when they feel unsure. I’m humbled by these moments, by the learning, the unlearning, and the gentle reminders that confidence is a practice, not a personality trait.

Here’s to stepping into our presence, honouring our bubble, and learning from the most unexpected teachers.

With gratitude,

Chantal

Happy Saturday Reader, Have you ever felt that spark to start something new, a project, a new fitness routine, a dream, a conversation, only to find yourself… Scrolling? Cleaning? Suddenly feeling too tired? It’s easy to call that laziness or lack of motivation, but what if it wasn't those things at all? Avoidance isn’t a flaw. It’s a signal. Our body’s way of whispering, “Something here feels unfamiliar or uncertain” And that makes sense. Trying something new often brings up fears- of...

We’re still smiling after our latest THP Hangouts, where a group of amazing teen girls came together to make snowglobes. Reader, at first, the room was pretty quiet. That kind of uncertainty that happens when everyone’s still finding their footing. But before long, it transformed into a space filled with laughter, creativity, and confidence. There was glitter flying (literally), ideas being shared, and conversations that reminded us why we love creating these moments of connection. One...
