The Comeback Starts Here.

Welcome,

Whether you’re new here

or have been part of the Raising Resilient Teen Girls community for a while,

I’m really glad you’re here.

Let me ask you something:

If your daughter’s sport was suddenly taken away tomorrow… who would she feel she is?

“I’ve always wanted to dance professionally. I don’t have a plan B.”

My client sat nervously in front of me, chewing at the side of her cuticle.

Her voice was steady, but her body wasn’t.

And As we talked about surgery and recovery timelines,

I could see her nervous system shifting into high gear.

The possibility that life might not unfold according to the plan she’d held since childhood felt unbearable.

For elite teen girl athletes, injury is never just physical.

Yes, we mobilize strong supports-

physio, specialists, doctors, trainers.

And rightly so. Taking care of the body matters deeply.

But what often gets minimized is the nervous system impact of injury.

When a teen’s identity is tied to her sport, an injury isn’t just tissue damage.

It’s identity disruption.

Her friendships are connected to her team.
Her confidence is reinforced by performance.
Her emotional regulation is calibrated through movement.

When that is suddenly removed, her nervous system scans for threat:

Loss of identity.
Loss of belonging.
Loss of future certainty.

The body can heal while the nervous system remains dysregulated.

And when a nervous system is in survival mode

bracing, catastrophizing, over-controlling

recovery is almost always impacted.

Beyond “thinking positively,” it’s essential to integrate psychological recovery alongside physical recovery.

In my work, we support injured teen girl athletes in:

• Processing identity shifts
• Regulating fear responses
• Rebuilding internal safety
• Expanding self-worth beyond performance
• Strengthening connection outside of sport

This changes the trajectory of recovery.

I’ve seen athletes physically heal but remain emotionally stuck

terrified to return,

disconnected from joy,

chronically anxious about re-injury.

And I’ve seen athletes use injury as a turning point, because their recovery included their nervous system and sense of self.

What if we offered teen girls more than “stay strong”?

What if we supported the full complexity of who they are?

Injury recovery is not just rehab.

It’s identity work.
It’s nervous system work.
It’s resilience rebuilding.

And when we treat it that way, the transformation extends far beyond sport.

If your daughter is navigating injury recovery

and you’re noticing anxiety,

identity shifts,

or emotional overwhelm alongside the physical process,

integrating both body and nervous system can be the game changer.

With so much gratitude,

Chantal

Welcome back, This week, I’ve been thinking about recovery in a different way. At the horse rescue where I volunteer, many of the horses arrive underfed. Some come with neglected hooves, untreated dental issues, or visible signs of physical hardship. The care priorities feel obvious. Nutritious food. Dental care. Farrier visits. Medical support. But one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned isn’t about feeding schedules or supplements. It’s about safety. Some of these horses startle easily, are...

WHAT WOULD YOUR DAUGHTER LOVE THIS YEAR? To walk into a room without overthinking where to sit? Easily start up a conversation with the person next to her? Finally try out for the team she’s been longing to join? Make genuine, sustainable friendships? Go for the gold in her endeavours and see confidence grow from there. Help her do it ALL! She CAN build that kind of confidence. It starts with shifting perspective, asking different questions, & taking ownership of the story she tells herself....
